What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

IMPROVING EDUCATION - Students of all ages deserve access to high-quality education, whether they are in preschool, K-12, community college, university, or career technical programs. Our economy relies on a skilled and knowledgeable workforce. It is a well-rounded educational system that will lead to a brighter future for us all. SOLVING THE HOUSING SHORTAGE - Housing prices have skyrocketed and are out of reach for many locals. Families, kids, veterans, and people who are mentally ill are being left out in the cold. Let's work together and help solve the housing shortage that is affecting so many people in southern Oregon. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION - The summertime smoke in Southern Oregon is an indication that we are not protecting our environment enough. We need to work toward healthy forest management, fire prevention, clearing underbrush, thinning trees, and prescribed burns.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am most passionate about education affordability and access. Education affects so many different aspects of our communities. If we want to make progress on the housing shortage, homelessness, mental health, and drug addiction, then we need to focus more on high-quality education. It is the cornerstone of every successful community.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is one of my favorite political films. Corruption in politics is nothing new, but it is always something worth fighting against.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Honesty, integrity, and perseverance are the traits I look for in my elected officials and what I strive for from myself.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

I worked a lot of odd jobs for my family as a kid like accounts receivable (I was quick on the computer), mail room, janitorial, etc. My first "real" job was working for a local TV station in high school. I wrote stories, edited tape, floor directed, designed computer graphics, and helped research for reporters. I worked there for about 2 years before going to University of Oregon.

What is your favorite holiday? Why?

Thanksgiving. My extended family gets together, we eat great food, and we play football.

What is your favorite book? Why?

Harry Potter - An average person can help save the world.

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

"If you have to go potty, stop and go right away" - I have two preschool-aged kids.

Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?

Senator Alan Bates is my role model.
