I am a native Houstonian, wife of 34 years, mom of 3, and grandmom of 10. I'm an educator and an entrepreneur. I LOVE our city! I am excited about all the growth and progress we have made in the last several years, but I also recognize that some of us are being left out. Some of our communities thrive as others die. Some of our fellow Houstonians have a straight path towards success while others of us battle unjust policies and unfair practices that label us and/or present obstacles that hinder our progress. Some of us have jobs that provide a decent quality of life and some of us are locked into a pay structure that keeps us in poverty and dependent on the system. Some of our children have everything they need to be successful and others are forced to make do with less than enough. I believe that ALL of us deserve to have a good quality of life, and that's why I'm running for City Council, At Large-Position 5. I want to see a Houston with policies and programs that create a path for all of us to have a decent quality of life. I want to see a Houston where people like me, who were able to finally break out of poverty, are the rule and not the exception! I am grateful that my story has a "happy ending." but I don't want it to just be my story. I want Houston to be a place where stories like mine happen everyday! I want to be Our Voice, for Our Time, for Our Houston!
  • I will be a fierce advocate for transparency in budgeting and equity in expenditure of city resources
  • I will work to create and identify effective strategies and policies to support flood resiliency and recovery
  • I will fight for a fairer criminal justice system that doesn't make justice dependent on income
Flood Resiliency and Recovery

Fairer Criminal Justice System
Economic empowerment

Stronger, safer, communities and sustainable neighborhoods
The city of Houston is home to more than 2 million people. The policies and ordinances passed by city council affect the lives of all of these Houstonians.
There are several people that I look up to; however, my grandmother tops them all. She was a giver and a caretaker. She took care of everyone around her and gave sacrificially in so many ways. She was also the hardest working woman I know. She worked 3 jobs all the years I can remember and remained working until the age of 92!
I am a person of integrity. I have a very strong worth ethic. I am a problem solver. I am a people engager and relationship builder. I am an innovative thinker.
1) Being familiar with city budgeting process and the city budget itself

2) Being abreast of issues on the agenda for city council
3) Attending council meetings and making decisions on proposed ordinances

4) Remaining accessible to constitutents
I want to leave a legacy of service and a life lived with integrity and compassion for others.
The first historical event I remember was the impeachment of Richard Nixon. I was around 7 or 8.
My very first job was as an attendant with the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department. I was 13 years old and retained the job until I was 15 and old enough to get another job with more hours.
The bible. I believe it is the key to life.
I struggled to overcome being the daughter of a convicted felon, a teen mom, and a high school drop out.
Experience in running organizations, managing people, and creating effective policies are transferable skills regardless of the arena in which they were employed. Experience specifically in government is not a requirement, nor a guarantee of effectiveness for a candidate.
Understanding of budgeting; personnel management, contracts and contract laws, state and local laws that impact the powers of the council; the ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships and to work collaboratively with people who differ from you in opinion.
