Michelle Chambers
Michelle Chambers (Democratic Party) is an at-large member of the Fort Wayne City Council in Indiana. She assumed office on January 1, 2020. Her current term ends on January 1, 2028.
Chambers (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for an at-large seat of the Fort Wayne City Council in Indiana. She won in the general election on November 7, 2023.
Biography
Chambers was born in Fort Wayne. She earned a B.A. in child development from California State University-Los Angeles in 1999, going on to receive a master's degree in public administration from National University-Los Angeles in 2005. She holds two additional certificates: one in leadership from Kansas University and another in real estate development from the University of Southern California.[1]
After earning her master's degree, Chambers worked for several years in the Los Angeles area. Her experience, which was largely in government, included the following:
- 2007-2011: Redevelopment project manager, City of Carson
- 1995-2007: Senior project coordinator, City of Los Angeles Community Development Department
- 2000-2004: Deputy director of Human Services Family Development Division, City of Los Angeles
- 1997-2000: Center manager of Human Services Family Development Division, City of Los Angeles[1]
Since returning to Indiana, Chambers opened two businesses downtown: Signing Closers, a professional notary company founded in 2012, and Your Virgin Hair Boutique, a hair extension retailer.[1][2]

2015
The city of Fort Wayne, Indiana, held elections for mayor and city council on November 3, 2015. A primary election took place on May 5, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was February 6, 2015. All nine city council seats were up for election.[3]
In the at-large city council race, three seats are up for election. In the Republican primary, candidates included Robert A. Armstrong, Michael Barranda, Lee Bradley, incumbent John Crawford, Thomas Freistroffer, Teresa Sutton and Eric Tippmann. In the Democratic primary, candidates included Terry Anderson, Mike Avila, Kevin R. Brown, Gina M. Burgess, Michelle Chambers, Cathy Cross, Daniel P. Lobdell, Lloyd Osborne and Tommy A. Schrader. Barranda, Crawford, Freistroffer, Anderson, Avila and Chambers advanced to the general election. Tabitha Dyck also ran in the general election as a Libertarian. Barranda, Crawford and Freistoffer won in the general election. Incumbents John H. Shoaff (D) and Marty Bender (R) did not run for re-election.[4][5]
