|- Safe, healthy communities - Investing in mental health resources, more youth programming, and equitable opportunities in employment and education. We must find ways to help cover the gaps in our social safety net, especially with the loss of pandemic emergency funding. Finally, we must recognize that housing is necessary for safe & healthy communities. We need to approach housing with an “all of the above” approach; the private market is not equipped to effectively meet all housing needs. Transitional shelters and tiny home villages are necessary. Cooperative housing expansion is necessary. We should be holding developers accountable to redefining affordable housing units they create as truly affordable.
- Support for good jobs and small businesses - supporting working people, the labor movement, living wages, and investing in local small businesses with community ties. Additionally, this means working with our city employees’ employee associations, protecting the rights and benefits of our city employees, and paying our frontline city employees wages that match their skills, hard work, and dedication.
- Sustainability & environmental justice - protecting our parks and green spaces and investing in sustainability measures that help build community health, such as community gardens and urban farming. We must also improve walkability and non-car infrastructure in our communities. We need to expand public transit and biking, recognizing that moving away from cars is not just environmentally necessary but beneficial to addressing socioeconomic disparities and fighting for disability justice.
