Michelle Ferrigno Warren
Michelle Ferrigno Warren (Democratic Party) ran for election to the U.S. Senate to represent Colorado. She was disqualified from the Democratic primary scheduled on June 30, 2020.
Warren ended her 2020 campaign after the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that she had not collected enough signatures to qualify for the ballot. The state supreme court's decision overturned a lower court opinion in which Judge Christopher Baumann ruled Warren should be on the ballot because she had collected more than half of the signatures she needed, showing "a 'significant modicum' of support for her candidacy."[1][2]

Unity Party primary convention
Stephan Evans advanced from the Unity Party primary convention on April 4, 2020. He was on the ballot in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Noteworthy events
On April 21, 2020, District Judge Christopher Baumann ruled that Michelle Ferrigno Warren could appear on the primary ballot.[3] Warren submitted 5,383 valid signatures, short of the 10,500 threshold to make the ballot.[3] In her complaint, Warren argued the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting state of emergency prevented her from collecting more signatures.[3] The district judge said that reaching 50% of the required signatures was sufficient given the circumstances.[3]
On April 24, Secretary of State Jena Griswold (D) filed to appeal the ruling.[3] Assistant Attorney General Emily Buckley, who represented the secretary of state's office in the appeal, wrote, "Stretching the substantial compliance standard so far as to allow a candidate who fell so short of the mark to access the primary election ballot is unfair to candidates who earned such access through full compliance with the election code, as well as those who fell short but chose not to pursue litigation to circumvent Colorado’s ballot access requirements."[4]
On April 27, the Colorado Supreme Court agreed to hear Griswold's challenge to the District Court ruling.[5]
