Michelle Manigault Hurley
Michelle Manigault Hurley is a family court judge for the Fifth Judicial Circuit in South Carolina.[1] She was elected to the court by the South Carolina General Assembly on January 30, 2013 and assumed the bench in April 2013.[2][3] She was re-elected in February 2019.[4]
Education
Hurley received her B.A. from Howard University and her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law.[5]
Career
Before she became a judge, Hurley worked as an attorney for the Richland County Department of Social Services, an attorney and legal trainer for the Children’s Law Center of the University of South Carolina School of Law, and as an assistant director for the Department of Social Services Office of Individual & Provider Rights and Administrative Hearings. She also previously served as a law clerk for the Honorable Alison Renee Lee and as an associate municipal court judge for the City of Columbia.[6]
