Michelle Merritt
Michelle Merritt was a 2015 Democratic candidate for District 2 of the Fort Wayne City Council in Indiana. Michelle Merritt lost the general election on November 3, 2015.
Biography
Born in Indianapolis, Merritt grew up in Decatur, Illinois. She earned a certificate at Loyola University's Women's Leadership Program and was the owner of Merrfeld Resumes and Coaching, a company that specializes in career coaching and resume support, at the time of her candidacy.[1] Her professional experience, which is largely business-related, includes the following:
- 2012-Present: President and CEO, Merrfeld Resumes and Coaching
- 2010-2012: Vice president of member relations and communications, Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce
- 2008-2010: Corporate culture and retention director, Three Rivers Federal Credit Union
- 2002-2008: Director of homebuilding recruitment, Management Recruiters Indianapolis North[2]

Merritt wrote on her campaign website that, if elected, she would "utilize her experience and strengths to promote business growth in the 2nd District, enhance responsiveness in local government and support responsible Downtown growth."[1]
Elections
2015
The city of Fort Wayne, Indiana, held elections for mayor and city council on November 3, 2015. A primary election took place on May 5, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was February 6, 2015. All nine city council seats were up for election.[3]
In the Republican primary election for District 2, incumbent Russ Jehl ran unopposed. In the Democratic primary, Michelle Merritt advanced past Michelle Hill. Jehl defeated Merritt in the general election.[4][5]
