Michelle Mullet is an activist and environmentalist. She is running to become the first female and first Latina State Representative of the 20th Middlesex District in Massachusetts. Her background is in gun reform advocacy and environmental activism. She has a degree in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.
  • We need to get Massachusetts to run on 100% renewable energy by 2035. The climate crisis is already here and we need new leadership to bring a sense of urgency to this critical issue.
  • Massachusetts is one of the safest states in the nation and it's because of our strong gun laws. I will continue to work on gun reform to keep our communities safe and keep schools safe from gun violence.
  • Massachusetts is the worst in the nation when it comes to traffic and public transportation. We must bring our transportation infrastructure into the 21st Century and the only way to do that is to have visionary leaders who think beyond the next election cycle.
My work with Moms Demand Action and ACLU inspired my run for office. I work passionately everyday to amplify organizations that share my values. I believe strongly in protecting civil rights and in the time of Black Lives Matter, the work of ACLU has never been more important. I want to live in a world free of gun violence and so I work everyday to advocate for stronger gun laws in America. With organizations like Sandy Hook Promise, we can change gun culture in America so that when my children grow up, school shootings will be a rarity and not a part of the regular news cycle. As a woman of color, I am passionate about promoting women's rights and helping to amplify the voices of those that are often overlooked and underrepresented.
I'm a big fan of Ann Richards since I grew up in South Texas. I also love Rachael Rollins, Stacey Abrams and Elizabeth Warren. To quote Warren herself, "I like women that fight back!"
I am running for office because I am someone that likes to connect people with resources. I do that in my everyday life, whether it's a friend looking for an artist residency or a constituent asking for help with an unemployment insurance application. I like to make things happen and oftentimes I see things in a different way so that I come up with innovative and forward thinking solutions to ongoing problems. I'm someone that likes to see progress and leave things better than I found them.
I'd like to be able to look in the rearview mirror in 10 or 20 years and say, I helped move Massachusetts towards leading the nation in renewable energy, cutting edge transportation and social/economic justice.
I remember watching the Space Shuttle Challenger mission on TV at school. I was 13 years old and it was a very shocking day that I will never forget.
My very first job was a lifeguard at the local YMCA in San Antonio, Texas.
Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon
Before my mother got a job as a police officer, my father killed himself in a drunk driving accident.
My sister and I had to move in with our grandparents in a crowded house with aunts and cousins. It was terribly frustrated to never have my own room or my own space until I was in high school. I know what working class families face when they are one paycheck away from poverty or living in their car. I was lucky enough to break out of that cycle of poverty in my family. And I also saw the power of a union job and how it changed my family's life exponentially.
