The Michigan Civil Service Employee Legislative Communication Amendment was not on the ballot in Michigan as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on November 8, 2022.

The ballot measure would have prohibited disciplinary action against state civil service employees or nonpartisan legislative employees for communicating with legislators or legislators' staff. The ballot measure would not have protected communication prohibited by law or false statements.[1]

In Michigan, a constitutional amendment requires a two-thirds vote in each chamber of the Michigan State Legislature during one legislative session.

State Sen. Tom Barrett (R-24) introduced the constitutional amendment as Senate Joint Resolution G (SJR G) on March 23, 2021. The Michigan State Senate voted 35 to 0 to pass SJR G on May 18, 2021.[1]

On October 6, 2021, the Michigan House of Representatives rejected the constitutional amendment in a vote of 65 to 38. At least 74 votes were needed to pass the amendment.[1]
