Michigan high court chastises judge
March 5, 2010
Michigan: The administrative agency of the Michigan Supreme Court has delivered their second warning to Judge Judge Leo Bowman telling him to stop ordering people you are not impaneled to sit through trials. This is the second complaint the Supreme Court has received about Bowman's treatment of people who he finds in contempt of court. The most recent complaint came when Bowman, and Oakland Circuit Court judge, ordered Carmela Khury to sit and watch a trial with her two children even after she was excused from jury duty. Khurry, who was selected as part of the jury pool called to Bowman's courtroom, arrived 20 minutes late for court after not being able to find anyone to take watch her two young children for the day. Marcia McBrien, the public information officer for the Michigan Supreme Court, has stated that Bowman has been warned, and that he has been told that he has no legal authority to demand that non-jurors sit through a trial.[1]
