Candidate Connection

Mick Shoemaker, Jr. participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 8, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Mick Shoemaker, Jr.'s responses follow below.[2]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Issues that undermine the traditional family upon which our country was built including but not limited to: de-funding Planned Parenthood and blocking the radical LBGT agenda being taught in our schools.

2) Issues that promote global citizenship in lieu of American citizenship including but not limited to: halting immigration and focusing on assimilation and securing our borders (build the wall).
3) Issues that reduce the $21 trillion debt including but not limited to: addressing Medicare and Medicaid funding, reducing regulations, and promoting pro-growth tax policies.[3][4]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

The breakdown of the American family, one man, one woman, and children. The traditional family unit is the foundation upon which society rests. Marriage is a "covenant" that arises from God's grace, and His best plan for humanity. The many benefits of traditional marriage include a greater respect for human life; less poverty and welfare dependence; more likely to pass on a conservative view of premarital sex to their children. Many of the problems we face today can be traced to the breakdown of the family unit. Gay marriage and LGBT rights proponents have undermined the pre-eminence of marriage to the detriment of society. The public education system has been taken over by leftists groups such as The Human Rights Campaign, The National Education Association, and Planned Parenthood. The elimination of moral boundaries, the promotion of gay marriage and "gender fluidity" in our schools is prevalent. We must return to conservative views and policies that promote family health.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]

Candidate Connection

Mick Shoemaker, Jr. participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 8, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Mick Shoemaker, Jr.'s responses follow below.[5]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Promote a return to Judeo-Christian principles, defund Planned Parenthood

2) Halt immigration of any kind, until the border wall is built
3) Adress the out of control budget debt[3][4]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

The morality of a nation determines the future of that nation. I promote a return to common sense policies that promote the nuclear family unit (one man, one woman & children), which is the cornerstone of our country.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Mick Shoemaker, Jr. answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Jesus Christ, I am a born again believer. Christ is the perfect example to which we aspire. The Bible is the "play book" for life. We follow imperfectly, but faithfulness to the words of Christ is a guiding principle for life.[4]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
- Honesty - standing by power of convictions/courage - response to constituent needs/requests - perseverance[4]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
Humility - being teachable - accountability to constituents - honesty - Christian[4]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
To uphold the principles of the Constitution. To fight and vote for what I believe is right for America, regardless of political costs. To respond and help with constituent concerns/requests.[4]
What legacy would you like to leave?
That I walked as I talked![4]
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
The assassination of President Kennedy. I was 6 years old and my teacher, Mrs. Long came into our room crying. She broke the news, even though we were too young to fully understand the consequences.[4]
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
Driving the tractor for the older boys throwing bales of hay onto the trailer. I was told not "to ride the clutch." I did, and burnt the clutch out of the tractor.[4]
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Thanksgiving. It reminds us to turn our eyes upward for all our blessings. Plus, my children/son-in-law and grandson are home. Also, I like food and football.[4]
