Funding
School board candidates in Arizona were not required to file a campaign finance report if they did not raise or spend more than $500. If they planned to stay under this threshold, they were permitted to file an exemption statement. This rendered them exempt from all other campaign finance reporting, provided they did not exceed the $500 threshold. Otherwise, candidates were not required to file any report until they raised or spent more than the threshold limit. At that point, they had to file a Statement of Organization within five business days from when the threshold was reached. The pre-general campaign finance report was due November 4, 2016. All campaign finance filing was handled by the Arizona Secretary of State.[3]

Candidacy statement
Stewart published the following statement about his candidacy:
“ | My name is Mick Stewart and I ask for your vote to serve on the Amphitheater Public School’s Governing Board. I
am not a career politician or a candidate who will use service on the board as a stepping stone towards other offices. I am an Amphi parent, a public school educator, and an Amphi community member. These areas provide me the needed perspective to effectively serve you on the school board. My goal is to provide fair oversight of the Amphitheater School District and Administration and to be the advocate for Amphi students, parents, and district employees. I’m a Tucson native with an amazing wife and five children. Four of my children are graduates of Canyon Del Oro high school and my youngest is an 8thgrader at Cross Middle School. I support my children’s teachers and schools. I’m a public school teacher of 25 years and I have a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. Returning to Tucson after graduating from Brigham Young University, my wife and I chose to raise our family in Amphi. I have long ties to Amphi. My father is an Amphitheater High School graduate of the class of 1955. I was raised by parents who lived the example of public service. My parents served on school boards in northern Arizona. I witnessed the good that can be done as involved community member’s work together to provide our future with quality education. In my years teaching AP US Government for Sunnyside High School and my 15 years teaching for the Amphi School District, I instill in my students the importance of public service and giving back to the community. I now seek the opportunity and honor of serving our Amphi community. I will work to assist Amphi in continuing to provide excellent, engaging, and challenging curriculum for our students. I will continue to support our dedicated staff and administrators. I will work to even more strengthen the relationship between the district, our parents, and community. It is my plan to hold monthly “meet your board member” forums for members of our community. Constituents will be given the opportunity to discuss concerns and receive updates on district decisions. Together we will continue to improve our schools for our students. We must provide the best educational offerings to attract more students. As we work together, we can showcase the district and even more parents will consider an Amphi School the best choice for their children. Spending will be reviewed and discussed. We will continue to make the best economic and spending choices. We will be the best stewards of public funds. Students will be the top priority of the district. I promise to be your advocate. Amphitheater is filled with wonderful students, employees, supportive parents and community members. I know we can work together. I will work for you. Thank you for your support. Please vote Mick Stewart for Amphi School Board.[6] |
