The Midland Independent School District put a $1 million bond proposal on the ballot in 1954. The district sought funding for the Long Elementary School, Milam Elementary School and the Washington Math and Science Institute. The bond passed with 97.92 percent of voters approving the measure. This was the district's eighth bond election.[1]
