Voters in the Midland Independent School District, which is located in Midland County in western Texas defeated a $110 million bond proposal in 1996. The district placed the measure on the ballot to seek funding for the Midland High School, two elementary schools, renovations and its technology infrastructure. At the time, it was the largest bond measure ever sought by the district.[1]

The bond was defeated with 55.90 percent of voters against the measure. This was the district's 28th bond election, but it was only the second to fail to receive voter approval.[1]
