The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 3, 2014. Incumbent Mike Barrett was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Sandi Martinez was unopposed in the Republican primary. Barrett defeated Martinez in the general election.[5]

He defeated Alexander Buck, Mara Dolan, Joe Kearns Goodwin, and Joseph Mullin in the Democratic primary on September 6 and defeated Sandra Martinez (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[6][7][8]
