Recall reports

An effort in Los Angeles, California, to recall City Councilman Mike Bonin was initiated in September 2017. Recall organizers submitted a notice of recall to Bonin on November 3, 2017. The recall effort ended on November 21, 2017, when the city clerk determined that the statement of reasons published locally did not include all of the reasons for recall.[1][2]

Recall supporters

Recall organizers targeted Bonin for removal due to his support for a city ordinance eliminating traffic lanes in order to reduce collisions. This ordinance was approved as part of city initiatives called Mobility Plan 2035 and Vision Zero. Opponents of eliminating traffic lanes argued that traffic patterns would shift to residential areas and contribute to more accidents in those neighborhoods.[1]

Recall opponents

Bonin offered the following response to the recall effort:

I am confident the vast majority of my constituents approve of what we have done together. My job is to represent their interests and values, and not be distracted by right-wing radio hosts, or by my former opponents and their supporters, who have been calling since election night for a recall that would cost the taxpayers of Los Angeles millions of dollars.[1][3]
