Mike Burgess is a former Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives, representing District 51 from 2003 to 2013.

Burgess, who works as a web developer, has a B.A. in journalism/Mass Communication from Kansas State University.[1]

He is a board member of the Shawnee County Fair Association and past chair of the Public Relations Society of America Technology Section.

Policy Positions

Burgess refused to take Project Vote Smart's 2008 Political Courage Test. The test, which is administered to all candidates for presidential, congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative offices, asks one central question - "Are you willing to tell citizens your positions on the issues you will most likely face on their behalf?"[2]

Burgess ran for re-election in the 2012 election for Kansas House of Representatives District 53. He ran unopposed in the August 7 Republican primary and was defeated by District 56 incumbent Annie Tietze (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[4][5]

Burgess won re-election to the 51st District Seat in 2010 with no opposition.[6] In the August 3rd primary election, Burgess defeated Republican primary opponent Tyler Feeney by a margin of 2,884 to 490. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.

On November 4, 2008, Burgess was re-elected to the 51st District Seat in the Kansas House of Representatives with no opposition.[7] He raised $14,958 for his campaign.[8]
