Michael W. Day is the presiding judge of the Fourth Judicial Circuit in South Dakota. Day was appointed by Governor Dennis Daugaard on April 26, 2013, to a term which began in July 2013.[1] Following to the retirement of Presiding Judge Warren G. Johnson on December 31, 2014, Day was appointed by Chief Justice David Gilbertson to be presiding judge of the court.[2] He was re-elected to the court in 2014 for a term that expires in 2022.[3]

Day received his B.S. from the University of South Dakota in 1980, and his J.D. from the University of South Dakota in 1983.[4]

Career

Prior to becoming a circuit judge, Day had been in private practice since his graduation from law school in 1983, where he rose to partner with Day Morris Law Firm, LLP.[1]
