Mike Doogan (b. June 7, 1948) is a former Democratic member of the Alaska House of Representatives, representing the 25th District from 2007 to 2013.

Biography

Doogan's professional experience includes working as a self-employed writer/novelist, Press Secretary to House/Senate Democrats (2004-2006) and Editor/Columnist with the Anchorage Daily News (1985-2004).[1]

Issues

Doogan's answers to the Alaska State Legislative Election 2006 National Political Awareness Test are available. When asked his legislative priorities Doogan responed:

"If there is a revenue surplus again next session, I will sponsor a bill to save $1 billion by repaying that amount from the general fund to the Constitutional Budget Reserve.

I will sponsor a bill to restore the state's pension program. This should be revenue neutral."[2]

  • HB 21 - "An Act increasing the maximum assessed value that a municipality may exempt from residential property taxation and allowing cost-of-living adjustments by ordinance without voter approval."
  • HB 195 - "An Act relating to official action by electronic mail and to public records."[3]

Doogan won re-election to the 25th District seat in 2010. He ran unopposed in the primary.[4] He defeated Thomas M. Higgins (R) and Harley Brown (L) in the November 2 general election.[5]

In 2008, Doogan was re-elected to the Alaska House of Representatives District 25. Doogan (D) finished with 3,831 votes while his opponent Lynda Placek (R) finished with 1,601 votes.[6] Doogan raised $42,975 for his campaign fund.[7]
