An effort in Detroit, Michigan, to recall Mayor Mike Duggan from his position was launched in September 2015. On March 31, 2016, U.S. District Judge Judith Levy ruled that Robert Davis could pursue a recall against Duggan despite an initial ruling against the effort by Wayne County elections officials.[1] Davis also led a recall effort against Gov. Rick Snyder over the Flint water crisis. As of December 2016, this recall effort appeared to be abandoned and Ballotpedia discontinued active coverage. Recall supporters

Davis sought the recall of Duggan due to the mayor's hiring of two officials with prior run-ins with law enforcement. Department of Neighborhoods Director Charlie Beckham was convicted in 1984 and imprisoned for 21 months for accepting a bribe, while running the city's water and sewage department. Corporation Counsel Melvin Hollowell faced a charge of receiving an act of prostitution in 2004, but the charge was dismissed because a county sheriff's deputy wrote a prostitution ticket within city limits.[1]

Davis initially filed a petition against Duggan in September 2015. The petition was rejected during a clarity hearing by Wayne County elections officials. The recall effort was allowed to move forward with Levy's ruling in March 2016. Davis needed to submit a minimum of 41,271 signatures from registered voters residing in Detroit before a recall election reached the ballot.[1]
