Mike Foster was the Montana Director of Agriculture. He assumed office on January 4, 2021. He left office on September 30, 2021.

He was appointed director of agriculture by Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) and assumed office on January 4, 2021.[1] Foster was temporarily appointed program director for Montana's American Rescue Plan Act in May 2021. He retired from public service on September 30, 2021.[2]

Biography

Mike Foster was born in Townsend, Montana. Foster earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Western Montana College, a bachelor's degree in business administration from Carroll College, and an M.P.A. from the University of Montana. As of this writing, his career experience included working as the state executive director of Montana's Farm Service Agency, the regional director of advocacy for St. Vincent Healthcare, the chief policy advisor to former Governor Judy Martz (R), a high school teacher, and a coach.[1][3]

Political career

Montana Director of Agriculture (2021-2021)

Foster was appointed Montana Director of Agriculture by Gov. Greg Gianforte and assumed office on January 4, 2021. He succeeded Ben Thomas (NP) in the position. Foster was temporarily appointed program director for Montana's American Rescue Plan Act in May 2021. He retired from public service on September 30, 2021.[1][2]

Montana USDA Farm Service Agency (2018-2021)

Foster was appointed to become state executive director of Montana's Farm Service Agency under the U.S. Department of Agriculture by the administration of President Donald Trump (R) in February 2018. He left the position in 2021 following his appointment as Montana Director of Agriculture.[3]

Montana Board of Regents (2004-2006)

Foster was appointed to the Montana Board of Regents in February 2004 by Gov. Judy Martz, where he served as vice-chairman. He resigned before the end of his first term in May 2006.[4][5]

Montana State Senate (1995-1998)

Foster represented Senate District 20 in the Montana State Senate from 1995 to 1998. He became Senate majority whip in 1997.

Montana House of Representatives (1991-1994)

Foster represented House District 32 in the Montana House of Representatives from 1991 to 1994.[3]
