Mike K. Nakagawa is a federal bankruptcy judge for the United States bankruptcy court, District of Nevada. He was appointed on September 1, 2006, and his current term will expire on August 31, 2034.[1][2] In August 2020, Nakagawa was reappointed to a second 14-year term.[3]

Education

Nakagawa earned a bachelor's degree from the University of the Pacific and a J.D. from the University of California at Davis.[4]

Career

Prior to joining the court, Nakagawa began his legal career as a federal law clerk to Chief Judge Philip C. Wilkins of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. He entered private practice in 1984 as a partner at the law firm of Cooper, Nakagawa & Briseno, and then transitioned his practice to the law firm of Nakagawa & Rico where he remained until he was called to the bench. He focused his practice at both firms on bankruptcy and business-related litigation matters.

In addition to his law firm service, Nakagawa taught bankruptcy law classes at an adjunct law professor at McGeorge School of Law and Lincoln Law School from 1995 until 2005.[5]
