Mike Schmier
Michael Schmier (born January 7, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan) is the owner and attorney for a private practice law firm based out of Emeryville, California. On April 22, 2010, he announced his candidacy for the statewide office of attorney general, the seat vacated by Democrat Jerry Brown, who ran for governor, in the 2010 election.[1] This was the third time Schmier has campaigned for the position, having failed to claim the Democratic nomination in both 1998 and 2002. He went on to lose the Democratic nomination to San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, after placing last out of seven with nearly six percent of the vote.

Professional experience
Straight out of law school, Schmier worked as a law clerk for the Chief Judge of the Federal District Court in Southern California. In 1970, he served as a Deputy District Attorney for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office before being hired as an assistant professor of law at San Diego State University two years later. For five years beginning in 1971 Schmier was a trial and appellate attorney for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). He started his own private practice law firm based out of Emeryville in 1976 and has continued to operate as attorney there ever since. Simultaneously, he was also named as an administrative law judge for the California Agricultural Labor Relations Board in 1977, remaining in the position for eight years.
