Mike Snipes declared his candidacy to succeed Justice Michael Keasler as the Place 6 justice on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. Keasler's term expired on December 31, 2020. He was required to leave office by a mandatory-retirement provision in the Texas Constitution. However, Keasler's seat was ultimately not up for election in 2020. Gov. Greg Abbott (R) chose Keasler's replacement.[1]
