I have served as a fire commissioner in Clark County, WA for over 10 years. My wife and I recently moved to Clallam County, in part, to be closer to her family in Port Angeles. I am a mostly retired engineer and scientist. I have successfully started three companies, including the non-profit Forest Service Volunteer Association, where I served as president and chair until 2012. My hobbies include hiking, walking, amateur radio, and SCUBA diving.
  • Few members of the public attend fire district meetings. This makes it challenging for us to keep them informed about financial and operational challenges and successes. I would like to work on improving transparency and increasing communication with partner agencies and the public.
  • The current board of commissioners consists of three members. While this meets the state law minumum, five member boards are far more typical, because they allows pairs of commissioners to discuss district business between meetings without a quorum being formed. This is especially useful when meeting with other public agencies or for committee work done between public meetings.
  • It is imperitive that we provide all the tools and training necessary to allow our first responders to safely and efficiently perform their work. Nearly all equipment used by first responders is expensive and has expiration dates that can effect safety and even your home insurance rates. Having a detailed plan for all such maintenance and replacement is critical in managing costs over periods ranging from months to decades.
I want all of my constituents to understand how and why their money is being spent while at the same time ensuring first responder safety, efficiency, and success.
Lincoln, TDR, Ike, Carter, Obama--Fairness and kindness to all.
Honesty, openness, and a willingness to listen to all sides.
The world a better place.
Chief Ed Hartin (retired-East County Fire and Rescue, Central Whidby Fire and Rescue), Joshua Seeds (Commissioner and Chair, East County Fire and Rescue)
