Mike Vuittonet was a member of the West Ada School District school board in Idaho, representing Zone 2. Vuittonet assumed office in 2011. Vuittonet left office on January 1, 2020.

Vuittonet ran for re-election to the West Ada School District school board to represent Zone 2 in Idaho. Vuittonet lost in the general election on November 5, 2019.

Vuittonet defeated Christine Bitler Whited to retain his Zone 2 seat in the general election on May 19, 2015.[1]

Vuittonet was targeted for recall, but the effort was ultimately dropped. Vuittonet was accused of violating the Idaho Open Meeting Law, voting in favor of increased administration costs, and for contracting inefficient student transportation services. The recall effort was approved to circulate petitions in November 2015, but in January 2016, the group announced that they would not submit their signatures.[2][3]

Vuittonet's four fellow board members—Tina Dean, Carol Sayles, Julie Madsen, and Russell Joki—were targeted for recall by a separate group, the "Concerned Citizens of West Ada School District for Trustee Recall". The group questioned the four members' transparency and their treatment of former Superintendent Linda Clark, who resigned from her position on October 23, 2015.[4]

Vuittonet was a 2012 Republican candidate for District 21B of the Idaho House of Representatives.

Funding

School board candidates in this election were not required to file any campaign finance reports, but the election in May 2015 was the last election for which there were no reporting requirements. On April 3, 2015, Gov. Butch Otter (R) signed SB 1072 into law which requires school board candidates in districts with an enrollment of 500 students or more to comply with campaign finance reporting requirements.[7] A majority of Idaho's school districts have an enrollment below this threshold. Of the 149 districts in the state tracked by the National Center for Education Statistics, 74 had an enrollment of 500 or greater in the 2012-2013 school year.[8] The law took effect on July 1, 2015.

Endorsements

Vuittonet received official endorsements from State Rep. Tom Daley (R-21), State Rep. Steven Harris (R-21) and State Sen. Cliff Bayer (R-21).[9]
