Mimi DesJardins confirmed as Hawaii's newest Second Circuit District Judge

MAUI, Hawaii: The Hawaii State Senate confirmed Mimi DesJardins' appointment to the Second Circuit District Court in Maui on Friday, January 20th. The senate vote was unanimous. Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald appointed DesJardins to the seat in December 2011.[1]
The Maui Second Circuit District Court is one of 4 district courts in Hawaii. It is a trial court that has jurisdiction over traffic infractions, summary possession, ejection cases, non-jury civil cases under $10,000, and small claims where the amount claimed is under $8,300.[2]
Before being appointed as district judge, DesJardins was a family law and criminal defense attorney. She also has served as "a deputy prosecuting attorney, deputy public defender and deputy corporation counsel in Maui County."[3]
Speaking on Judge DesJardins' confirmation State Senator Rosalyn Baker said, "In her years of practice as both an attorney and a per diem judge, she has garnered the reputation of being highly competent, fair and knowledgeable."[1]
