1978 Graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College BA

I graduated in 3 years, putting myself through school. Retired Sales Manager *4 years for Bachman Jewelers downtown St. Cloud and have listened to the concerns over shopping downtown for the past 14 years. I have friends and family who own businesses here and I've also listened to why people do and do not drive into our downtown. Licensed Realtor. Prior to 9-11, 20-year Business Owner, Marey Studios Non-Union Talent Agency, hiring talent for TV and Film nationwide. In 2000 I authored the musical A Little Princess for the Paramount Theatre and assisted in fundraising. Post 9-11, Sales Manager for VoiceStream and was instrumental in transitioning stores to T-Mobile MN, USA, also establishing the business to business channel with an amazing team. I have an extensive background in Management, budgets, hiring and not so enjoyably firing as well as my favorite part of the job... Customer Service. My children were all raised in the greater St. Cloud area, playing hockey, swim team and Lacrosse for Tech High School. My grandchildren are also now being raised here and in the same public schools that are dear to my heart. I live here, I choose to stay here and I am a St. Cloud resident.

My husband and I are members of our church choir and I have served on Boards of Directors including: Central MN UCP; Stop it Now, MN; Confidence Learning Center and Project Pathfinder MN. Lifetime Sorority sister for Mrs. MN International.
  • Our Community is the Priority. Personally and intentionally I am in full support of our Veterans, our schools, teachers, students and of course our neighborhoods. My concern is protection for our community and the support of our Police department. Even in my first few encounters with my neighbors I am hearing that safety and feeling secure especially downtown and at the mall are huge priorities. Developing better protection with foot traffic for running trails as well as the River Walk, SCSU and our schools and parks; Continually I am hearing safety! I hear you.
  • Tourism and developing areas to visit St. Cloud. Creating more features echoing Munsinger Gardens & plaza styled areas in & near the downtown. I am hearing that perhaps a plaza area downtown to gather for lunches and shopping would be especially welcomed by our business owners and visitors. Filling the empty buildings downtown with businesses that draw people in and to further build economic revenue. Redesign parking meters for a two hour limit and no fees involved. Giving business owners, shoppers and diners a better reason to shop and dine downtown. Our goal being to provide ample space for employee parking, inclusive of the existing ramps.
  • People are not the problem, people are the solution. My colleague C.Benson allowed me to use this quote. Nearly every conversation I have had includes that the City Council just doesn't hear us. Well it's time. Whether it is apartments or single family dwellings or townhomes or parks and walking paths, it is your neighborhood and your input should be heard. We all have a vested interest in our homes and our community and it is time now to start talking and to really listen. This is why I decided to run.
Community Development

Community Safety and Security
Benefits
Public Inclusion
Revitalization of Downtown
Support for Teachers, Schools and our Students
Creating a partnership with our local University

and Technical College(s)
I believe that this council is the conduit for the community and specific entities of our community to be heard.
Our Veterans, teachers, parents, students, official departments, developers, everyone and anyone who needs to bring a voice to this city can and should be able to access this council for concerns. Especially when legalities are the fundamental priorities.
Tough question. I go way back to my late father who died far too early. He was a strong conservative but he and Hubert Humphrey were friends. They highly respected each other. I try to exemplify his legacy.
Seven Habit of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey has been a book that I have used over many years to garner my habits. It allows each person to put priorities into quadrants for each specific request and solutions to listening so as to specifically be heard. It sounds complex but it truly breaks down the process of listening intently.
Honesty

Loyalty
Transparency
Vested interest in community
Long term commitment

Quality based community decision maker.
This is the reason I decided to run for City Council,
I listen but I also take action.
In my past experiences with the St Cloud City Council it has continually been the vital elements of community development, security and the needs of our citizens. Each component brings its own unique requirements and directives. Each request will have its questions and specifications, especially where the money is coming from to fund each particular endeavor.
I worked for my mother from the age of 8 as her
sous chef. Albeit unpaid, I loved the job. She had the most popular catering business. She catered for the Governor's in St. Paul for many years and was the first to cater at the Ordway. My first 'real' job was at Warner's Hardware in St. Paul as a cashier, I was fired when they learned I was not 16. I moved into the talent industry with Moore Creative Talent in 1972 and am still an active Talent with that agency all these years later. Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists is part of my pension.
How to Build a Non Anxious Life, Dr. J. Duloney
He breaks down years of other books I've read into simple daily vignette's and like a tennis match brings me back to center court.
Sigourney Weaver's character Gwen Demarco
in Galaxy Qwest
Your Song, Elton John
'I hope you don't mind that I put down in words, how wonderful life is while you're in the world.'
We all have fractures in our lives. Times that we cannot change but can change us. The struggles I have had will still recycle today. It's those moments that make me more compassionate and empathetic.
So I guess even though they've been the darkest. they have changed me for the better,
No, I believe it is an attribute for council. There are no prior prejudices to shape your decisions or answers.
Certainty that all people matter. When on the Board of Directors for UCP the motto: 'Treat me like a Person'
has always resonated with me and it is one that I revisit often.
Why are chicken's so funny?
BEE-CAAAAASE!
Personal Friends and Business Acquaintances from my past 25 years.
The biggest question is and will always be,

Where is the money coming from and how will it be spent?
Who is it benefiting and how will this be a successful outcome based on the endeavor at hand? Transparency is key.
Accountability has been a huge avenue of concern in the past several years especially in Minnesota.
Policing the flow of money in and around community projects is absolutely essential.

Follow up has got to be the reaction to the action.
