|- My first priority is racial justice. As the parent of biracial children, I've seen first hand the difference between the challenges they have encountered vs those I have encountered as a woman with white privilege. Small town America has its charms and virtues, but it also has its share of the racist ugliness that we see daily at the national level in this country. It's easy to think that in a largely homogeneous state like N.H. this is a non-issue, but I'm here to tell you it is as present in Hampstead as it is in Boston or Minneapolis or Louisville.
- On health care: the President's lawsuit to declare Obamacare unconstitutional will effect the over 500,000 NH residents with preexisting conditions. Corky Messner supports Trump in his effort to rob the most vulnerable of their health care. We all pay for each other's health one way or another. Emergency care because you didn't have health insurance is way more expensive and burdens hospital ERs.
- I'm eager to foster conversations in our communities and our state about the work that needs to be done to promote racial justice. We expect even our small town police to be social workers, therapists, homeless advocates and law enforcement. Maybe it's time we support them by strengthening those services in other agencies and letting the police be police.
The "war on drugs" is a public health issue and not a criminal justice issue and is how it should be treated.
