ST. PAUL, Minnesota: Several Republicans in Minnesota have filed a lawsuit involving redistricting on January 21, 2011, in state court.[1] The GOP's lawsuit is the second legal challenge filed over redistricting.[1]
On January 12, 2011, four Democrats filed a separate redistricting lawsuit in federal court.[2][3] Attorneys for the plaintiffs raise concerns if politicians can draw the lines in a fair manner.[2] The Democrats lawsuit asks the court to invalidate the current political boundaries and require leaders to submit their redistricting plans to the court.[3] Also, Republicans are seeking to intervene as plaintiff's in the redistricting suit filed in federal court.[1]
Minnesota's eight congressional seats and 201 districts in the state legislature will have to be shifted to reflect the updated populations in 2011.[2]
