The Minnesota Legislators Called to Active Duty Amendment did not appear on the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot in Minnesota as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment.According to state reports, the measure did not garner the required legislative approval as of May 17, 2010, the end of the 2010 legislative session.[1] The proposal called for authorizing the legislature to temporarily replace a member called to active duty. Specifically, the proposal would have required lawmakers who might be activated to submit a list of three possible successors. A successor would be selected by either the House or the Senate leaders. The successor would serve until the lawmaker returns but not beyond the lawmaker's elected term.[2]
The amendment was proposed by Rep. Roger Reinert.
Path to the ballot
Proposed amendments must be agreed to by a majority of the members of each chamber of the Minnesota State Legislature. However as of May 17, 2010, the end of the 2010 legislative session, the measure had not garnered sufficient approval to qualify the measure for the 2010 ballot.[1]
