Minnesota Railroad and Banking Taxation, Amendment 1 (1932)

The Minnesota Railroad and Banking Taxation Amendment, also known as Amendment 1, was on the November 8, 1932 ballot in Minnesota as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was defeated. The measure would have authorized the taxation of income, franchises and privileges of railroad companies. The measure also would have authorized the legislation to make taxation of national banking associations conform to federal law.[1]

Although the measure gathered more "yes" votes than "no" votes, Minnesota requires that the majority of all voters vote "yes" in order to pass an amendment. In 1932, there were 1,054,203 total voters, requiring a vote of at least 527,102 to pass a measure.
