The Minnesota Term Limits Amendment did not make the November 2012 ballot in Minnesota as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The proposed amendment would have imposed term limits on members of the State Legislature.[1]
The amendment was sponsored by State Senators Gary Dahms and Paul Gazelka.[2]
Text of measure
The ballot language that voters would have seen reads as follows:
"Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to place limits on the number of terms of office of state legislators?"
- YES
- NO
Elections before 2012 must be disregarded in determining the limits imposed by the amendment.[3]
Constitutional Changes
The proposed amendment would have amended section 6 to Article IV to the Minnesota Constitution.[4]

In order to refer proposed amendments to the ballot they must be agreed on by a majority of the members of each chamber of the Minnesota State Legislature. The 2012 legislative session ended before the measure was passed on to the ballot.
