Mira Ricardel is a consultant for Federal Budget IQ specializing in sales and growth strategies relating to foreign military sales and international business.[1] She was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team, a group of advisors tasked with recommending presidential appointments for the incoming administration.[2] She is the team's Department of Defense advisor.

Career

Education

Ricardel earned a bachelor's degree in international relations and national security studies from Georgetown University. She also completed doctoral course work at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.[1]

Career in government

Ricardel began her career in government in 1986 when she worked as a congressional affairs specialist and eventually a deputy director for congressional affairs within the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency at the U.S. Department of State. She served in the State Department until 1989.[1]

From 1989 to 1996, Ricardel served as a legislative assistant within U.S. Senate Republican leader Bob Dole's office. There, she drafted legislation and specialized in foreign affairs and defense policy.[1][3]

After serving as the director for defense and foreign policy on Bob Dole's failed 1996 bid for the presidency, Ricardel served as a vice president for programming with the nonprofit organization Freedom House and as an independent consultant before returning to government work in 2001.[1]

From 2001 to 2003, Ricardel was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Eurasia.[1] In this role, Ricardel was responsible for coalition building between the U.S. and governments in the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Balkans.[4]

From 2003 to 2005, Ricardel was the acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy.[1] She advised the secretary on matters including Europe, Eurasia, NATO, nuclear forces, missile defense, and arms control.[4] She also represented the U.S. in meetings and negotiations with foreign government officials.[1]

Private sector

After leaving the Defense Department, Ricardel spent one year as Vice President of International Business Development for Teachscape, a company that creates educational training and support.

Ricardel then spent over nine years with Boeing, a company that The Washington Post describes as a "major military contractor."[1][5] Ricardel first served as Boeing's Vice President of Business Development, Strategic Missile and Defense Systems from 2006-2013. She then served for two and a half years as Vice President of International Business Development, Network and Space Systems.[1]

In 2015, Ricardel joined Federal Budget IQ as a consultant.[1]

Ricardel was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team in his first presidential term. The transition team was a group of around 100 aides, policy experts, government affairs officials, and former government officials who were tasked with vetting, interviewing, and recommending individuals for top cabinet and staff roles in Trump's administration. She was the team's Department of Defense advisor.
