The Mississippi Free Public Schools, Amendment 2, also known as Amendment 2, was on the ballot in Mississippi on November 3, 1987, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. The amendment proposed that the constitution be amended via House Concurrent Resolution No. 9. The amendment proposed to repeal Section 205, which allowed the legislature to abolish public schools in the state and authorizes the legislature to force counties and school districts to abolish their public schools. The amendment proposes Section 201 provided for the establishment, maintenance and support of free and public schools.[1]
