The Mississippi Private Corporation Charters, Amendment 8, also known as Amendment 8, was on the ballot in Mississippi on November 3, 1987, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. The amendment proposed that the constitution be amended via Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 549. The amendment proposed to amend: Section 178, which would delete the provision that charters for private for-profit corporations shall not be granted for than 99 years and would delete the provision which provided for taxing the increased value of the property and the franchise of a corporation with a charter of longer than 99 years.[1]
