In Mississippi’s nonpartisan general election, a total of 160 judicial candidates ran. Ninety-three faced no opposition, while 67 competed in contested races. Incumbents comprised 71% of the candidates.
Following the 28 contested races in Mississippi’s general election, five proceeded to a runoff on November 25. In these contests, no candidate secured over 50% of the vote on November 4, leading the top two candidates to compete again.

Interesting races
- No incumbents were defeated in the general election. However, Judge Billy Joe Landrum was defeated by challenger Dal Williamson in a runoff. Landrum trailed Williamson by 11.2% in the general election and received just 33% of the vote in the runoff.
- Judge D. Neil Harris was re-elected to the 16th Chancery District, defeating Paula S. Yancey by a margin of just 18 votes.[1]
- Six candidates competed for the open seat on the Adams County Court. Walt J. Brown and Patricia F. Dunmore advanced to the runoff, having received 30.3% and 36.6% of the vote, respectively, in the general election. Brown won the runoff with 57% of the votes.
