Missouri House gives final approval, health care amendment to appear on ballot
May 12, 2010
JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri: In the final vote, the Missouri House of Representatives voted 108-47 to refer the proposed Healthcare Freedom Amendment to the August 3, 2010, primary election ballot. Just last week, the Senate voted 26-8 in favor of the legislatively referred constitutional amendment. According to state law, the measure required only a simple majority in both the House and the Senate in order to appear on the statewide ballot.[1][2]
Missouri is one of several states across the nation debating a federal healthcare law signed by President Barack Obama in March 2010. However, Missouri will be the first state to vote on the proposed amendment. Both Arizona and Florida have referred measures to the ballot, but their elections will take place in November.
