Noteworthy events

Lawsuit to remove McClanahan from the ballot (2024)

On February 29, 2024, the Missouri Republican Party announced that it was attempting to legally remove McClanahan from the ballot for the gubernatorial Republican primary after allegations of his associations with the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) surfaced. McClanahan has previously denied being a full member of the KKK, but acknowledged having ties to his local chapter.

The hearing took place on May 9, 2024, in Cole County, Missouri, and the judge did not issue an immediate ruling.On May 17, Judge Walker rejected the case stating that the party "willingly created the very association of which it now complains" by accepting the filing fees. McClahanhan's attorney commented that their team believed the judge made the correct call and the Missouri Republican Party did not issue a comment.
