The Missouri State Sovereignty Amendment did not appear on the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot in Missouri as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The measure did not garner the required legislative approval as of May 14, 2010, the end of the 2010 legislative session.
The measure proposed solidifying Missouri's state sovereignty and rejecting various federal policies. In other words Missouri would not recognize federal policies including dealing with hate crimes, gun control or allowing civil unions. Additionally, the state would reject federal health care policies.[1]
The measure was sponsored by Rep. Brian Nieves.
Path to the ballot
In order to qualify for the ballot, the measure required approval from both the House and the Senate. The House approved the proposed measure with a vote of 90 to 69.[1] However, the measure did not garner the required legislative approval as of May 14, 2010, the end of the 2010 legislative session.
