Missouri real estate taxation amendment certified, appeal dropped

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri: State officials officially dropped their appeal against a proposed initiated constitutional amendment. As of late last week, following an amendment to Cole County Circuit Judge Paul Wilson's original ruling on Missouri Real Estate Taxation Amendment the state agreed to drop their appeal. The measure is still scheduled to appear on the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot as per the court's ruling.[1]
According to reports, attorneys for initiative supporters, the secretary of state's office and Attorney General Chris Koster jointly asked Wilson to modify his original ruling in exchange for dropping the appeal. On September 2 Judge Wilson rescinded his original ruling and instead simply issued that the measure appear on the ballot without explanation of his decision. As previously stated, the state dropped their appeal.[2] Originally, Wilson had ruled that ignoring the submitted signatures was an infringement of the constitutional rights of those that signed the petitions.[3]
A total of five measures will appear on the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot.
