Three seats on Missouri's state-level courts were up for retention elections on November 8, 2016. One seat on the Missouri Supreme Court joined two seats on the Missouri Court of Appeals on the general election ballot.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The supreme court justice facing retention was Justice Richard Teitelman.
  • The court of appeals judges facing retention were Philip M. Hess and James M. Dowd.
  • Each judge retained earned a 12-year term on the bench.
  • On the Missouri Court of Appeals, Judge Clifford Ahrens would have faced retention in 2016 but retired in August 2015. His successor, Lisa Page, did not face retention because the election occurred less than a year after her swearing-in.[1][2] Likewise, Judge Patricia Cohen would have faced retention in 2016 but was appointed to a federal magistrate judgeship. Her successor, Colleen Dolan, did not face retention because the election occurred less than a year after her swearing-in.[1]
