2017
A special election for the position of Mississippi House of Representatives District 102 was called for September 12, 2017. A runoff election was held on October 3, 2017. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was July 24, 2017.[1]
The seat became vacant in June 2017 after Toby Barker (R) was elected as the mayor of Hattiesburg.[2]
Cory Ferraez, Missy Warren McGee, Casey Mercier, and Kathryn Rehner faced off in the special election. Candidates in Mississippi special elections run without party labels.[3] Since none of the candidates received more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters in the special election, Missy Warren McGee and Kathryn Rehner, faced off in the runoff election, which McGee won.
