My name is Mitzy Perez. I was born in Tijuana Mexico, and I’m proud to now be a U.S citizen. I graduated from UC Merced with a Bachelors in management and business economics.
  • My main priority is to build more schools and bring more resources to our current schools so our children can thrive.
  • Another priority is to build more parks and create more recreational spaces to promote more activity within our community. It is important that our children have choices, from soccer fields, baseball fields, etc.
  • Lastly, I want every resident to have representation. Our community is mostly Hispanic, and as a first generation Hispanic college graduate, it would be an honor to bring that representation to our community. I will always have the people’s best interest.
I believe quality education is the foundation of opportunity, so I want to ensure our schools have the resources they need to help every student thrive. Our parks are more than green spaces; they’re gathering places that build community, encourage active living, and create a better quality of life for families. And when it comes to homelessness, I am committed to working toward compassionate, practical solutions that connect people with the support, housing, and opportunities they need to get back on their feet.
I look up to my mom. She did whatever she had to do to make sure we made it in life; working hard, making sacrifices, and never giving up, no matter how challenging things became. She taught me perseverance, the importance of staying true to your values, and the power of helping others without expecting anything in return.
I believe the most important qualities for an elected official are integrity, transparency, and a genuine commitment to serve. Integrity means making decisions based on what’s right for the community, not what’s politically convenient. Transparency builds trust by keeping residents informed and involved in the process. Lastly, an elected official must be a good listener; someone who takes the time to understand the needs, ideas, and concerns of the people they represent, and then works tirelessly to turn those conversations into action. For me, public service is about being accountable, accessible, and always putting the community first.
I believe my dedication, empathy, and strong work ethic are qualities that will help me succeed as an officeholder. I am deeply committed to listening to all voices in the community, understanding diverse perspectives, and working tirelessly to find practical solutions. I’m persistent in facing challenges and honest in my approach, which I believe builds the trust necessary to serve effectively.
The core responsibilities of a City Council member are to represent the voices of our residents, make informed decisions on local policies and budgets, and ensure that city resources are used effectively and fairly. This means listening to the community, addressing concerns, and working collaboratively with other council members, city staff, and community partners to solve problems.
I want to leave a legacy of positive, lasting change that makes our community stronger and more inclusive. I hope people remember me as someone who listened deeply, acted with integrity, and fought to create opportunities. Ultimately, I want my time in office to be remembered for making life better for everyday families and setting a foundation for future generations to thrive.
The first historical event I remember was the 9/11 attacks. I was about three years old, so my understanding at the time was limited, but I remember the atmosphere of fear and sadness in the adults around me. As I grew older, I came to understand the magnitude of that day and how it shaped our country, our policies, and our sense of unity in the face of tragedy.
My first job was a seasonal position at a shoe store while I was in college. I worked there for a few months during the holiday season, and it taught me a lot about customer service, teamwork, and staying patient under pressure — especially during those busy holiday rushes.
One of my favorite books is “The Giver” by Lois Lowry. I appreciate how it challenges readers to think about the value of memory, choice, and individuality in a society that prioritizes conformity and control. It’s a powerful reminder that true progress comes from embracing diversity and freedom, and it inspires me to work toward a community where every voice is heard and every person has the chance to shape their own future.
If I could be any fictional character, I’d choose Captain America. I admire his unwavering sense of justice, leadership, and dedication to doing what’s right, even when it’s tough. Like him, I believe in standing up for others, leading with integrity, and working hard to protect and serve my community. Also, I am a huge Marvel fan, and I’m sure anyone would agree that Captain America always had the people’s best interest in mind.
Show Me How to Live by Audioslave - it reminds me that we are all gifted with life and it is up to truly live; meaning do the most we possibly can to have a fulfilling life we can be proud of.
One of the biggest struggles in my life has been overcoming challenges related to financial stability growing up. Watching my family work tirelessly to make ends meet taught me resilience and the importance of hard work, but it also showed me firsthand how crucial community support and strong public resources are. That experience drives my commitment to policies that help families get the support they need to succeed.
I believe financial transparency and government accountability are the foundation of public trust. Taxpayer dollars should be used responsibly, with clear reporting so residents can see exactly how their money is spent. I support open budgets, accessible public records, and regular updates so the community stays informed and engaged in decision-making. Accountability also means owning decisions; both the successes and the challenges, and being willing to answer to the people we serve. As an elected official, I would work to ensure our city operates with honesty, efficiency, and openness, because good governance depends on trust, and trust is earned through transparency.
