Mock Trial State Championship hosted by Maryland Court of Appeals

Annapolis, Maryland: Maryland students had the opportunity to argue before the Maryland Court of Appeals on April 20, 2012 at the 2012 Mock Trial State Championship.[1]
The competition was sponsored by the Citizenship Law-Related Education Program (CLREP), as well as by the Maryland State Bar Association and the Maryland Judicial Conference.[1]
The mock trial competition's success was greatly dependent on the several hundred volunteer attorneys and judges who took the time to coach the mock trial teams, as well as score the competitions all the way from the local to the final levels. Ever since the competition began in 1983, approximately 50,000 students from almost all the counties in Maryland have participated.[1]
High school mock trial teams compete on average 10-12 times by time they reach the state championship, and every competition has been held in either a District or Circuit courtroom. Mock trial teams that competed on April 20th had the pleasure of competing in the Maryland Court of Appeals courtroom, which was presided over by Judge Sally Adkins.[1]
Park School of Baltimore County and Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy of Montgomery County were the two schools that competed in the final round. The Park School mock trial team won, making competition history, as they won last year and are the only school who has won back-to-back championships in the Mock Trial State Championship.[2]
