Mohammed Choudhury
Mohammed Choudhury was the Maryland Superintendent of Schools. He assumed office on July 1, 2021. He left office on October 6, 2023.
In September 2023, Choudhury announced that he would not seek another term as Maryland Superintendent of Schools in 2024.[1]
On October 6, 2023, Choudhury resigned as Maryland Superintendent of Schools. [2]
Biography
Prior to being appointed Maryland Superintendent of Schools, Choudhury served as the associate superintendent and chief strategy, talent and innovation officer for the San Antonio Independent School District. Before that, he worked for the Dallas Independent School District.
Choudhury completed undergraduate work at California State University and received his M.Ed. from UCLA.[3]

Maryland superintendent of schools (2021-2023)
Choudhury was appointed as Maryland superintendent of schools by the Maryland State Board of Education on May 29, 2021. He replaced former officeholder Karen Salmon, who served from 2016 to 2021. He resigned on October 6, 2023. [4]
About the office
The Maryland Superintendent of Schools is a position in the Maryland state government. The superintendent is selected by the State Board of Education for a renewable four-year term and serves as secretary-treasurer to the board. However, the superintendent does not have a vote on the board, as the other board members do.[5]
