Mohammed Hassan
Mohammed Hassan (Democratic Party) was a member of the Hamtramck City Council At-large in Michigan.
Hassan (Democratic Party) ran for election to the Wayne County Commission to represent District 3 in Michigan. Hassan lost in the Democratic primary on August 6, 2024.
Biography
Hassan earned his B.S. and master's degree in mathematics from the University of Chittagong in Bangladesh. He moved to Hamtramck in 1994 and worked as a manufacturing expert at Faurecia Automotive Seating Inc.
Hassan decided to run for City Council in 2009 after seeing discrimination against immigrant populations by police officers and city officials.[1]

2012
Hassan ran in the 2012 election for Michigan House of Representatives District 4. He ran against Carol Banks, Marcelus Brice, Paris Canty, Jonathan Wright, Adam Hollier, Ernest Little, Rose Mary Robinson, Beverly Tran, Mervin White and Robert Zwolak in the Democratic primary on August 7. Hassan finished fourth in the primary. Incumbent Maureen Stapleton (D) ran in District 6.[9][10]
Endorsements
In 2012, Hassan was endorsed by The Hamtramck Review for District 4 State Representative. The publication's article explained, "So far, Hassan is the only Bangladeshi-American seeking this seat in the state legislature. He may not be the perfect candidate, but he does represent a community that needs its voice heard."[11]
