Campaign themes

2016

O'Neill's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

  • Healthcare: Expanding health care for all Mainers will bring millions of dollars that we paid in taxes to the federal government back to Maine. That money will infuse growth in the economy and bring down costs.
  • Mental health and addiction: Until the state takes a comprehensive approach to the lives of people who have or are at risk for mental illness or addiction disorders, there will be no solution. Moira will promote a shift to a culture of caring from the criminalizing approach the administration takes now.
  • Fair wages: Maine has a powerful work ethic and Moira knows that. But she thinks when Mainers work hard, they should be paid a fair wage for their efforts. The November referendum on raising the minimum wage will be an opportunity for all of Maine to commit to fair wages for hard working Mainers.
  • Protecting Maine's natural resources: Moira is eager to grow renewable resource options like solar power. Looking to clean, renewable energy means looking to a clean environment, financial security, and slowing climate change.
  • Campaign finance reform: Moira O’Neill is proud to be a Clean Elections Candidate for the Maine State Senate.[2]
