Biography

Monica DeLancy was born in Daytona Beach, Florida. DeLancy's professional experience includes working as an educator, community organizer, and parent resource specialist. She earned a bachelor's degree in Biology from Dillard University in 1999.[1] DeLancy was named the "unofficial" mayor of the Six Flags Drive community.[2]

Elections for the Georgia House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014, with runoff elections taking place where necessary on July 22, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Erica R. Thomas defeated C.D. "Branson" Wright and Monica Delancy in the Democratic primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[3][4][5]

Monica Evette DeLancy is the founder and organizer of We Thrive in Riverside Renters Association which provides resources, and workshops to empower renters to be leaders. In 2021 the organization received a $50,000 grant from Oprah Winfrey Foundation.

Monica have been vocal about the cost of rent and its burdened on single income households, women with children and senior citizens, which have led to Cobb County government recognizing the need to address the housing crisis. Monica’s advocacy in the community has led to the Georgia State legislative to pass House Bill 346 which mandates that landlords can not retaliate against renters who report maintenance issues.. In 2021 She is employed with Cobb County School District as a parent resource specialist.

She is a graduate of Dillard University with a degree in biology. Monica have earned 19 awards in her 16 years residing in Austell, Georgia. In 2018 she was recognized as a Cobb NAACP MLK living the dream honoree, Keep Cobb Beautiful community improvement award and Cobb Collaborative volunteer of the year honoree Monica’s journey for the past 16 years residing in Cobb County, Georgia raising 2 children Brianne (21) and Ernest (19) overcoming challenges of single parenthood, advocating for renters, families and home owners is a testimony that have many chapters and has prepared her for the role of State Representative. She resides in the Riverside Community located in Austell, Georgia.

The priorities I am concerned about are housing and education. A person that has stable housing can focus on their health, being financial responsible and advocating for their children.
I look up to my parents who provided a good foundation for me m.
As a single parent I had to raise my children by myself in a community that was considered challenged. I was able to start a non profit that have been recognized nationally and was awarded a grant for $50,000 from the Oprah Winfrey Foundation.
I am persistent and consistent and believe that everyone deserves a seat at the table.
The state representative needs to be receptive to the needs of the community they serve.
I want my children know that someone was fighting for them to have the quality of life they deserve.
The first historical event was the Space challenger explosion, I was 11 years old.
My first job was volunteering at Family Welfare Association for 6 years.
The coldest winter ever
The state biggest challenges is providing housing for all income levels.
Having one system May l as to only one class of people being represented.
It should not be a requirement so that everyone can have a chance to participate in the process.
Yea it’s important to build relationships in order to learn from each other.
The process should be evaluated and engage everyone of the importance of redistricting
I would like to have conversations with legislators from rural Georgia.

In a biographical submission to Ballotpedia, Delancy said that as a state representative she will continue to advocate for children, public safety in communities and to improve the quality life of all.[2]

DeLancy has been recognized at the South Cobb Business Association for her work in the community and received the Good Citizenship award in 2013. In addition, she has received the Georgia PTA lifetime achievement award in 2012.[2]
