For two decades, I’ve served Contra Costa County as a community organizer, nonprofit manager fighting human trafficking, and the first African American woman elected to the Antioch City Council. Our cost of living is skyrocketing. Housing is expensive. Homelessness is a crisis. Too much talk, and too little action.

As your Assemblymember, I’ll expand opportunity for every family by protecting good paying jobs; creating housing our workforce, first responders, seniors, and veterans can afford; and improving public safety. Locally, I’ve successfully shut down illicit massage parlors, and demanded gun control to keep deadly weapons off our streets. I’ll introduce tough measures against retail theft and violent crime and champion law enforcement approaches that build trust within our communities. I’m endorsed by California Labor Federation, California Federation of Teachers, Courage California, and California Legislative Black Caucus for my results in bringing leaders together to create solutions to challenging issues. I’m proud of my track record to expand housing, mental health and addiction services for people experiencing homelessness– and will take these approaches to ending homelessness, creating more affordable housing, and improving mental health access to Sacramento. I’ll work fiercely to reduce carbon pollution causing climate change. And I’m not afraid to stand up to Big Oil to hold them accountable for polluting our communities.

  • Addressing Cost of Living/Pocketbook Concerns - The cost of basic needs such as housing, groceries and healthcare have skyrocketed – all issues I have experienced myself. As Assemblymember, I’ll fight to address pocketbook issues for the well-being of every Californian.
  • Affordable Housing/Homelessness - I will champion local housing creation that generates local jobs and homeownership opportunities for our workforce, First Responders, and future generations. Homelessness is a crisis. I’ll bring my local leadership in improving homeless outreach coordination, expanding transitional housing, and enhancing mental health programs to Sacramento.
  • Safe Neighborhoods & Schools – I am a fierce advocate for safe neighborhoods and accountable law enforcement approaches that build trust with the community. My strong record includes limiting liquor stores and banning hourly rate hotels in my city; fighting human trafficking; shutting down illicit massage parlors; instituting police reform measures; and demanding gun control laws that take weapons off our streets and away from our schools.
I will advocate for policies that prioritize clean air and water, particularly in communities disproportionately affected by pollution. This includes supporting stricter regulations on industrial emissions, promoting renewable energy sources, and investing in infrastructure improvements to reduce air and water pollution. I will also work towards expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare services to address the health impacts of environmental hazards.

I was a canvasser for Dominoes Pizza when they first came to our county. It was a summer job that employed many high school students in the area. We walked in many communities a place Dominoe doorhanger ads on many doors
